Bluegrass Bernedoodles has released an updated educational resource explaining the range of sizes and generational classifications of Bernedoodles, aimed at helping prospective dog owners understand the breed before adding one to their household. The guide, developed by reputable breeder Bluegrass Bernedoodles, arrives as interest in the crossbreed continues to grow among families seeking low-shedding companions.
The Bernedoodle, a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, comes in three different sizes. Standard Bernedoodles represent the largest category, while mini and micro mini versions appeal to households with limited space or a preference for a smaller companion. The resource notes that the eventual size of a puppy depends largely on the size of its parents, making it an important consideration during the selection process.
The guide places particular emphasis on the smaller varieties, including the Bluegrass Bernedoodle Mini Bernedoodles, which have become a frequent point of inquiry among families. Beyond size, the resource outlines the breed’s generational classifications, which indicate the specific combination of parent breeds. These generations include F1, F1b, F2, F2b, and F1b Reverse Bernedoodles, each produced through different pairings of Bernese Mountain Dogs, Poodles, and Bernedoodles. The classifications influence coat type and shedding tendencies, with most Bernedoodles displaying wavy, curly, or straight fluffy coats that are low to non-shedding.
“Many families develop an interest in this breed without fully realizing how much variation can exist in each size and generation,” said LeAnne Lynch of Bluegrass Bernedoodles. “A mini Bernedoodle and a standard Bernedoodle can lead to very different experiences in a home, and understanding the generational differences helps families know what to expect from size as well as coat and temperament standpoint.”
The guide also addresses coat colors, which range from black and brown, black and white, and tri-color combinations to sable, chocolate, red, phantom, and merle patterns. It further describes the breed’s temperament, characterizing Bernedoodles as sociable, gentle, and easy to train, qualities that make them suitable as family members, therapy dogs, and service dogs too. “When families understand lifespan, coat type, and generation before they begin the process, they make better matches and the dogs thrive in their new homes.” Lynch added.
The resource additionally covers health considerations associated with the breed. All Bluegrass Bernedoodle parents are health tested prior to planning a litter. All Bluegrass Bernedoodle puppies are raised using an advanced service curriculum that includes early neurological stimulation exercises, noise exposure, socialization, vet checks and so much more. “What happens between birth and go home day is truly what sets our puppies part.” says Greg and LeAnne Lynch of Bluegrass Bernedoodles.
Bluegrass Bernedoodles is a specialized breeder that focuses entirely on raising healthy, happy puppies that go on to become a part of a family as a forever companion, therapy, and/or service dogs. The organization supports a comprehensive puppy process that includes an application process, temperament evaluations, and either pickup in person at their family home or delivery. They also provide educational materials and puppy products to assist new owners in caring for their dogs when they go home and breeder support for life.
